What a Mouse Test Can Tell You
A mouse is two systems working together: a sensor that tracks movement across your desk, and switches under each button that register clicks. Each has its own way of failing, and each needs a different test.
- Sensor and connection: how often the mouse reports its position (polling rate), how far the cursor travels per inch of hand movement (DPI or CPI), and whether those reports arrive at a steady pace.
- Switches: whether a single press registers as two clicks (double-click fault), whether a held button drops out during a drag, and whether every side button is detected.
Where to Start
If your cursor feels stuttery or less smooth than it should, start with the polling rate test: a mouse quietly falling back to 125 Hz is one of the most common causes. If clicks behave strangely, a double-click test will show it within seconds.
All tests here run entirely in your browser. Nothing is installed and nothing you do is sent anywhere.
