What Can Go Wrong with a Keyboard
A keyboard is a grid of switches read by a small controller. Faults show up in three different ways, and each has its own test:
- Dead or misbehaving keys: a key that doesn’t register, or sends the wrong code. The keyboard test lights up every key you press.
- Rollover and ghosting: cheaper keyboards can only report a few keys at once, so key combinations in games get dropped. The rollover test shows how many keys your keyboard handles together.
- Chatter: a worn mechanical switch that types one letter twice. The chatter test times each press to find it.
Which Test Should You Use?
If a key seems dead, start with the keyboard test. If letters double up while typing, use the chatter test. If movement keys stop working when you also press jump or sprint in a game, use the rollover test. And when everything works, the typing test tells you how fast you are.
Every test runs in your browser — nothing you type is sent or stored.
